Tasting Notes
This grappa stands out for its complex and structured character. It displays a warm amber color, the result of aging in wood. On the nose, intense notes of vanilla, sweet spices, toasted wood, and subtle hints of cocoa emerge. On the palate, it is smooth, enveloping, and persistent, with a perfect balance of aromas of dried fruit, honey, and caramel. The finish is long and harmonious, with nuances of tobacco and spices, confirming the artisanal quality of this Italian excellence.
Pairings
Mazzetti d'Altavilla's Grappa 3.0 Barriccata, thanks to its wood aging that lends complexity and smoothness, lends itself to refined pairings. Perfect with dark chocolate, dry pastries, or almond and hazelnut desserts, it's an excellent choice to conclude a significant meal. It also pairs well with aged or blue cheeses, where its toasted and vanilla notes create an elegant contrast. Ideal for those seeking a rich and enveloping sensory experience.
Cellar - Mazzetti d'Altavilla
The Mazzetti d'Altavilla Distillery, founded in 1846, is an icon of the art of Piedmontese distillation and one of the oldest companies in Italy. Located in the picturesque Monferrato region, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mazzetti d'Altavilla combines tradition and innovation in the production of high-quality grappas and spirits.
The pomace, harvested fresh from native grape varieties such as Barbera, Nebbiolo, Moscato, and Chardonnay, is the soul of its products. The craftsmanship has been passed down through seven generations, preserving traditional techniques such as steam distillation in copper stills, which lends elegance and aromatic complexity to its grappas.
The distillery's historical journey is further enhanced by its location in a historic 19th-century villa, which houses a museum dedicated to grappa and the art of distilling. Alongside its spirits, the company celebrates Piedmont's food and wine culture with sweets, chocolate, and artisanal products of the highest quality.
Mazzetti d'Altavilla is more than just a winery: it's a journey through the history, aromas, and flavors of Piedmont, combining tradition, innovation, and an unbreakable bond with the land.
